Faith Christian Center Senior Pastor and Co-Founder Dr. Gene Lingerfelt explains biblical fasting and offers recommendations for getting started.
“Biblical fasting, as led by the Holy Spirit, involves abstaining from all food for a set period of time.” That’s according to Dr. Gene Lingerfelt, Senior Pastor and Co-Founder of Faith Christian Center in Arlington, Texas. Here, the pastor reveals more about prayer and fasting as he explains fasting for answers, spiritual power, and breakthrough.
In recent years, Dr. Gene Lingerfelt and Faith Christian Center have placed a greater emphasis on prayer, confession, and fasting as led by the Holy Spirit. “Unfortunately, people have been led to believe that biblical fasting means giving up chocolates, social media, or just particular types of food,” explains Dr. Lingerfelt. “Yet, a true biblical fast,” he continues, “is when someone abstains from all food for a period of time, as led by the Holy Spirit.” This also includes abstaining from all liquids with the exception of water.
According to Dr. Lingerfelt, fasting from a biblical perspective is refraining from food for a spiritual purpose. “Fasting is for spiritual power and breakthrough,” adds the pastor. “When we fast biblically,” he continues, “We abstain from all food for a period of time, as led by the Holy Spirit.”
Water is fine, he says, and if an individual’s body is used to caffeine, they might enjoy a cup of black coffee or tea in the morning. “Many experience powerful results and breakthroughs with simply fasting for three days,” Dr. Lingerfelt reveals.
Fasting, however, is useless without prayer, according to the Faith Christian Center Senior Pastor. As such, those who are fasting must set aside additional time each day for prayer and for reading the Bible. “Feed yourself spiritually on God’s Word throughout the day,” he advises, “and use normal meal times to spend extra time in the Word of God and in prayer.”
With fasting, Christians are denying their bodies of food for a spiritual purpose. “It’s not just dieting!” remarks Dr. Lingerfelt. Instead, he says, the spiritual purpose makes biblical fasting much different. “Fasting from a biblical perspective is refraining from food for a spiritual purpose,” he reiterates.
Pregnant and nursing mothers, however, he points out, and people with serious health conditions, must only fast under advisement from their doctor.
“Let’s be hungry for God to move,” suggests Dr. Lingerfelt, “and let’s be willing to sacrifice—to fast and pray—to see God move powerfully!”
“Every great revival in history,” he adds, wrapping up, “has been birthed through prayer and fasting!”
Faith Christian Center’s Dr. Gene Lingerfelt offers insight into the Bible, God’s blessing, and His wonderful plan for every man and woman.
“God has a wonderful plan for everyone’s life, no matter their background or what they might be facing,” according to Dr. Gene Lingerfelt, founding and senior pastor of Faith Christian Center in Arlington, Texas. “God wants every man and woman to be saved. If you will give your life to Him, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and submit your life to the Word of God, you can experience God’s best and walk in the blessings of God.”
“Many people have been wrongly taught about God. They’ve wrongly heard God is out to get them or God is doing awful, evil things, like giving people cancer,” explains Dr. Lingerfelt. “God has been misrepresented for a long time and that’s why in America so many people have turned away from God.” “They have been wrongly taught God wants them to be a failure or that God is opposed to their success.” Dr. Gene Lingerfelt explains, “Nothing could be further from the truth!”
According to Dr. Lingerfelt, “God is a good God and He has a good plan for each and every person.” “That plan will not automatically happen in your life, however,” explains Dr. Lingerfelt. “There is a success pattern for life in the Bible, God’s Word, but every man or woman must make the choice to embrace that pattern for success.”
“Action is often the missing ingredient for success,” explains Dr. Lingerfelt. “Some people take no action and too many are taking the wrong actions. The key to success is to DO what the Bible says to DO and to live your life according to the success pattern we see in the Bible.”
According to Dr. Gene Lingerfelt, “God wants every individual to fulfill their full potential in life. Because of what Jesus did for us on the cross, we can be forgiven of our sins, we can become a part of the family of God, and we can live this life as the sons and daughters of God.”
“In the Bible, it’s possible to learn how to walk in the blessing of God,” Dr. Lingerfelt explains. At Faith Christian Center, he and son Austin help individuals to discover God’s plan.
“We teach them how to apply the Bible to their everyday lives, so they can walk in the blessing of God,” adds Faith Christian Center co-founder Dr. Lingerfelt. “We want to see everyone be a success in life!”
Faith Christian Center is a non-denominational, Full Gospel church in Arlington, Texas, located on 73 beautiful acres. Dr. Gene Lingerfelt and his son Austin share what they call a positive, motivational message in every service on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.
According to the pastor, the Bible covers every subject–life, family and marriage, parenting, child-raising, finances, and more. “Every answer for life,” he claims, “is in the Bible.”
“God has truly given us,” Dr. Lingerfelt adds, wrapping up, “a success formula, in His Word – the Bible.”
Dr. Gene Lingerfelt and his wife Sue founded Faith Christian Center more than 35 years ago. After 40 plus years of marriage and 35 plus years of faithfully pastoring Faith Christian Center, Dr. Gene and Sue Lingerfelt have earned a reputation for practical and relevant teaching from the Bible. Faith Christian Center Senior Pastor Dr. Gene Lingerfelt provides helpful advice for young people on how they can maintain their Christian faith in college.
In an increasingly dark and wicked world, Faith Christian Center co-founder and senior pastor Dr. Gene Lingerfelt offers expert advice, aided by his son and fellow Faith Christian Center pastor Dr. Austin Lingerfelt, on how young people can best maintain their faith as they head off for college.
“Recently, my son, Dr. Austin Lingerfelt, and I were asked, ‘How can Christian young people retain their faith in college while being faithful in living a moral, virtuous Christian life?'” reveals Dr. Gene Lingerfelt. His recommendations and advice, he says, are based on the stories and feedback which he hears from Faith Christian Center’s young people on a regular basis, and on the college experiences of his own children.
The world, according to Dr. Lingerfelt, is increasingly more wicked. “This is just one result of moral relativism being taught in schools and universities for several decades now,” explains the pastor.
“Christianity, the Bible, and a Christian worldview are all under attack,” according to Dr. Lingerfelt. “As Christian young people head off to college, they need to be aware of this, and they need to be prepared for what they’ll face.”
Whether a young person is in a Christian or secular college or university, there are a number of practical things they can do to maintain their faith.
“Find a great church,” advises Dr. Lingerfelt, “no matter what size, where the pastor simply believes and preaches the Bible.” “Attend church weekly,” he continues, “preferably several times each week, and also help out and volunteer.”
“Young Christians heading off to college should also have their own devotional life, and spend time in God’s Word and prayer every day,” according to Dr. Lingerfelt. “Even better,” he adds, “begin and end every day this way.” “Young Christians (and all believers) should also listen to faith-filled sermons daily,” according to Dr. Lingerfelt.
The other major factor? “Friends and relationships!” Dr. Lingerfelt explains, “Christian young people need to develop friendships and relationships with young people of like mind and faith. Two thousand years ago, the Apostle Paul wrote, ‘Bad company corrupts good character,’ and that is true 100% of the time.”
According to Dr. Lingerfelt, “Young Christians in college should be friendly to everyone and walk in love, but they shouldn’t form friendships or close relationships with lost, worldly people who will lead them into sin and wrong conduct.”
“Furthermore,” the pastor continues, “do not join a fraternity or sorority; these organizations are solely for partying, and only date real Christians and people of like mind and faith.”
Lastly, Dr. Gene Lingerfelt suggests that to avoid discouragement, despair, and the feeling of being alone, young Christians in college should keep busy. “Embrace your studies, work, church life, and volunteering, for example,” he adds, wrapping up, “and for more great, practical advice, read James Dobson’s book Life on the Edge.”

Senior Pastor and Faith Christian Center Co-Founder Dr. Gene Lingerfelt explains how God wants you to be a success!
Every Sunday at Faith Christian Center in Arlington, Texas, Dr. Gene Lingerfelt shares a positive, motivational message. For more than 35 years, Dr. Gene Lingerfelt has taught people HOW to practically apply the Bible to their everyday lives.
According to Dr. Gene Lingerfelt, “The Bible provides the answers people need in every area of life.” He explains, “If people will take the time to find out what God’s Word says, and then if they will take action and DO what God’s Word says to DO, they can then experience God’s best!” People may not realize it, but according to Dr. Lingerfelt, “The Bible is God’s instruction manual for our lives.” “In the Bible, any man or woman can find the answers they need, whether in their spiritual life, their marriage, their home, their work, or their finances.”
“Many people don’t realize that God wants them to be a success,” explains Dr. Lingerfelt. “God has a wonderful plan and purpose for every person. And God wants everyone to be a success at what God has called them to do. God also wants people to experience His best!” In the Living translation, Isaiah 1:19 says, “If you will only let me help you if you will only obey, then I will make you rich!” In the NIV translation, Isaiah 1:19 says, “If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.” God wants us to have His best in every area of life, but we must be willing and obedient. Every week on Sundays at 9 am or 11 am or Wednesdays at 7 pm, Dr. Gene Lingerfelt shows the congregation of Faith Christian Center HOW they can experience God’s best in every area of life.
Dr. Lingerfelt frequently says, “Success is not hard. It’s easy if you will just DO what God’s Word says to DO in every area of life.”

Faith Christian Center Co-Founder and Senior Pastor Dr. Gene Lingerfelt provides a closer look at the practicality of the Bible, which is the Word of God.
No matter what any individual might be facing or going through, God has a wonderful plan for every man and woman. God wants all men and women to be saved and to become a part of His family. That is what Jesus Christ paid the price for on the cross. He suffered and died on our behalf, so that our fellowship with God could be restored and so that we could become a part of the family of God. It’s a free gift but we must receive it and take action with it. And God wants every person to fulfill the wonderful and good plan that He has for their lives, which has been made possible because of what Jesus did on our behalf.
According to Dr. Lingerfelt, “God’s plan, however, will not automatically come to pass in our lives without us taking action on His Word.” “Faith,” according to Dr. Lingerfelt, “is not just belief. Faith is taking action on the Word of God, which is the Bible.”
Frequently, Dr. Lingerfelt shares how “God has given us free will and choice. So it’s up to us to enter into and walk in God’s best according to His Word.”
Dr. Lingerfelt explains, “At Faith Christian Center, we help people discover God’s plan for their lives, and we teach them how to practically apply His Word (the Bible) to their every day lives.” This is the consistent message at Faith Christian Center in Arlington, Texas, which is a non-denominational and Full Gospel church where Dr. Lingerfelt and his son, Austin, share a positive, motivational message in every service.
“The Bible is God’s Word to us,” explains Dr. Lingerfelt. “In the Bible, we discover how we can be saved, which is only through Jesus Christ, and we also learn how we can walk in the blessing of God in our everyday lives. All of the wonderful and good things that God has for us are not just for eternity and many Christians don’t understand that. God wants to do good and wonderful things in your life NOW, in the present.”
“No matter what anyone is facing, in any area of life, they can find the right answers in the Bible,” according to Dr. Lingerfelt. “The Bible covers every subject–life, death, marriage, family, parenting, child-raising, money, finances, etc.” Dr. Lingerfelt explains, “Every answer is in the Bible!”
According to Dr. Lingerfelt, “Far too many people believe that what’s spiritual isn’t practical and what’s practical isn’t spiritual, when in fact, the opposite is true. What’s spiritual is practical and what’s practical is spiritual.”
In Joshua 1, after the death of Moses, God gave Joshua a success formula for life that any person can embrace and apply to their own life. God told Joshua in Joshua 1:8, “ Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” In the New King James translation, it says, “For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
Dr. Lingerfelt frequently shares, “No matter what you have been taught about God or the Bible, God does want you to be a success. And He has given us a success formula in His Word. If you will apply His Word to your life and take action on it, then you will become a success.” This is something that Dr. Lingerfelt and his family have taught more than 30 years with amazing results.
Every week, the Lingerfelt family and Faith Christian Center receive miracle testimonies from families in the church. “When people learn that God is good and they are taught to expect miracles and the goodness of God, then good and wonderful things will happen. God is good and He will bring His Word to pass in the lives of men and women who believe Him and His Word.”

The pastor also touches more closely on Spiritual Authority. “To succeed in life, whether in your work or faith, you must understand authority, how to properly submit to authority, and how to be a person who honors authority. Many people fail to pull ahead and change levels because they don’t understand authority and they are not people who value and honor authority,” according to Dr. Lingerfelt.
Another of the pastor’s growing collection of workbooks and courses of study includes the newly-released Discipleship which will help believers mature and grow in living the Christian life. Currently, Dr. Lingerfelt is finishing his newest workbook Bridges of Faith.

Over the course of 35 plus years of ministry, he has traveled across much of the globe in his work answering the call of God. Dr. Lingerfelt is a graduate of both Texas Christian University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In this article, he looks back on his work and career to date.
“My story begins at the age of seventeen when I answered God’s call to go into full-time ministry,” reveals Dr. Lingerfelt.
Soon after, a young Gene Lingerfelt married his high school sweetheart, Sue, in 1976. In the years that followed, both earned degrees from Texas Christian University and Dr. Lingerfelt would go on to earn his doctorate from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth.

“Following our return home from our first trip to Africa, we founded Faith Christian Center in 1984 in a hotel ballroom in North Arlington,” explains the pastor. Dr. Lingerfelt and his wife, Sue, also started a private Christian school in 1988 as a ministry of Faith Christian Center. “The school has become one of the most important ministries of the church, especially in today’s culture; however, when we started the school in 1988, which was in the midst of a national and local recession, it was one of the hardest things we have ever done. We obeyed God, though, and He has been faithful and He has provided every step of the way.”
As the church and congregation grew, the church built its first building in 1988 on Interstate-30 not far from the current Dallas Cowboys stadium. In the decade and a half that followed, the church continued to grow. In 2000, the church purchased land in South Arlington along US HWY 287. In 2006, the church moved to its new campus at US HWY 287 and Eden Road in Arlington. Today, the church is located on a beautiful 73-acre campus in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

Faith Christian Center co-founder Dr. Gene Lingerfelt reflects on some of his most recent published works, including “10 Words That Can Change Your Life” and “The God Touch.”
An established pastor, author, and missionary, Faith Christian Center co-founder Dr. Gene Lingerfelt has enjoyed a recent series of publishing successes with “The God Touch,” “A Book of Prayer,” and “80-10-10: Everyman’s Road to Riches,” all of which are now available to purchase online and in select bookstores.
Reflecting on some of his favorite and best-received works, Dr. Lingerfelt takes a closer look at his current best-selling books and touches on “You, Me and God: The Threefold Cord is Not Easily Broken,” which is a book he also co-authored with his wife of more than 40 years, Sue Lingerfelt.
Perhaps the most well known of Dr. Lingerfelt’s books is titled “The God Touch: The Power of Partnership in Faith, Family, and Finances,” and one which the author calls “a very important work.”
“‘The God Touch,’” he reveals, “challenges readers to enter into an eternal covenant with God for a rewarding and productive life.”
Equally popular is “10 Words That Can Change Your Life,” as Dr. Lingerfelt explains. “This powerful volume tells readers how to apply ten specific life-changing words,” says the author and pastor, “in order to build and strengthen their self-esteem and relationships while also fostering great success through a combination of leadership and faith.”
Next, Dr. Lingerfelt turns to “A Book of Prayer,” another of his highly regarded works. “‘A Book of Prayer’ offers scriptures on prayer, healing, and prosperity, in addition to personalized daily scriptures taken from my own life,” he reveals. “Meanwhile, ‘80-10-10: Everyman’s Road to Riches,’” Dr. Lingerfelt goes on, “is a formula for handling the money which flows through all of our hands.”
He continues, “Within ‘80-10-10: Everyman’s Road to Riches,’ readers will discover a simple, yet profound strategy for a lifetime of personal fulfillment and financial success. If you make an unbreakable covenant with God to live the 80-10-10 life, I believe that you will receive the blessing, abundance, and favor God has promised.”
The popular author and much-loved pastor have also co-authored a successful book on marriage with his wife, Sue, entitled, “You, Me and God: The Threefold Cord is Not Easily Broken.” Copies of “You, Me and God” are available by calling the church bookstore and cafe at 817-561-3433.
“‘You, Me and God: The Threefold Cord is Not Easily Broken’ was written and first published by my wife and me two decades ago now, back in the late 1990s,” reveals Dr. Lingerfelt.
“In the book, readers are taught how to enjoy a happy and loving marriage,” he explains. “They’ll discover how to launch and continue marital growth as they find out just how tightly God can bind them together, and how, based on principles found in His Word, every couple can achieve what God intended in marriage,” Dr. Lingerfelt continues. “And what is that?” he asks, rhetorically.
“A marriage like heaven on earth!” reveals the Faith Christian Center co-founder.
Dr. Gene Lingerfelt has also authored several further, equally successful works including “Money: A Spiritual Force,” “Prayer and Confession for 2018,” and “When We Were Poor.”
Traveling to more than 40 nations during more than four decades in ministry, Dr. Gene Lingerfelt has helped plant 68 churches in countries around the world. As the senior pastor and co-founder of Faith Christian Center in Arlington, Texas, Dr. Lingerfelt offers a closer look at his decades-long international ministry journey.
“My desire to travel the world spreading God’s Word began in the early 1980s when my wife, Sue, and I traveled to East Africa as missionaries,” reveals Dr. Lingerfelt. At the time, he had already finished a master’s degree at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and Dr. Lingerfelt was working on completing his doctoral degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
After their time in Africa, together Gene and Sue then pioneered Faith Christian Center in Arlington, Texas. Since then, Dr. Lingerfelt has become a successful author and pastor. Together, Pastors Gene and Sue have planted nearly 70 churches around the world since their first trip to Africa in 1982.
“For almost 40 years, it has been my life’s mission to teach people from all around the world how to practically apply God’s Word to their everyday lives,” reveals Dr. Lingerfelt. “It all started when my wife, Sue, and I traveled to Africa as missionaries from 1982 to 1983,” he continues, “where I served as an instructor at the East Africa School of Theology in Nairobi, Kenya.”
Closer to home, Dr. Gene and Sue Lingerfelt pioneered Faith Christian Center in a hotel ballroom in Arlington, Texas on January 1, 1985. Since then, the church has grown and the church is now located on 73-beautiful acres in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
Both locally and globally, Dr. Lingerfelt has also made a name for himself as a pastor to men.
According to the U.S. Congregational Life Survey, an average American congregation is typically less than 40 percent male, something which Dr. Lingerfelt believes needs to change. “Regardless of age or background, it can be difficult, as a pastor, to reach men in the community,” he explains, “but I believe that it’s vital that they understand that when they embrace God, they become unstoppable in life.” “Many men are looking for a man–a man’s man–to pastor them. Being spiritual doesn’t mean being weak. To pastor men, pastors must be men and they must also be bold and confident.” “The key,” according to Dr. Lingerfelt, “is to fearlessly and boldly proclaim God’s Word without compromise.”
This is reflected in many of Dr. Lingerfelt’s books, including “10 Words That Can Change Your Life,” “80-10-10: Everyman’s Road to Riches,” and “Money: A Spiritual Force,” and also in courses of study such as, “Mighty Men of God” and “Spiritual Authority.”
“As a result, at Faith Christian Center today, we enjoy an almost unheard of, even split among men and women in our congregation, something which I’m extremely proud to have been able to achieve,” Dr. Lingerfelt adds.
Having co-founded Faith Christian Center in Arlington, Texas over three decades ago with his wife of more than 40 years, Dr. Gene Lingerfelt has earned a reputation as a successful, well-respected pastor. As an author, Dr. Gene Lingerfelt has also earned a reputation for his practical and relevant teachings, and for his work and success as a pastor to men in the community. Buruburu can be found in the Eastlands area of Nairobi.
Upon returning to the United States from their missionary trip to Africa, Dr. Lingerfelt and wife Sue pioneered a Full-Gospel, Non-Denominational, faith church in Arlington, Texas that would eventually become Faith Christian Center. From its beginning, the church has been diverse, multi-ethnic and multi-racial. The church family is also made up of many mixed families. Sadly, even in 2019, many churches in America are still not diverse, but that is not true of Faith Christian Center.
